Numbers That Nourish: How Metrics Deepen Motivation, Joyfully

Quotes to Begin This Chapter of Clarity
"When you know better, you can choose better."
— Maya Angelou
"Numbers don't shame you. They show you."
"The body is quantum—responsive to every choice."
— Me, learning to measure with love
"Data gives us the ability to personalize health with stunning precision."
— Dr. Elizabeth Yurth
From Guesswork to Precise and Personalized
I didn’t begin using InBody and LifeBase because I wanted more data. I began because I wanted more clarity—just as I shared in my earlier posts about reassessing my life in April as a mysterious number appeared behind my name (internal link to May 10, 2025 blog post).
This clarity has been inspired and informed by the trusted voices I’ve previous referred to like Dr. Peter Attia, Dr. Gabrielle Lyon, Dr. Stacy Sims, Dr. Stuart McGill, BJ Fogg, and Tara Brach. Their recommendations are further enforced by Dr. Elizabeth Yurth, who teaches that "strategic nutrition can be a primary intervention for musculoskeletal preservation and regenerative health," and Dr. Mark Hyman, long known as a zero processed sugar advocate who reminds us that "food isn't just calories—it's information, a molecular language that speaks to our genes and cells," whose work continues to emphasize the importance of muscle, metabolism, and mindfulness in longevity.
My first two weeks using the InBody + Life Base system were surprising easy. At first I thought eating three meals and two snack each day would be --- frankly --- hard. It wasn’t at all. I found the logging of my intake in the Life Base was a snap, it’s intuitive, and low friction. I’ve used other macro logging apps in the past and stopped because of their cumbersomeness. Another huge reason I’ve kept up with the food entries is because I know a human being, my Life Base coach, is seeing my entries -- in real time. Yep, good old fashion accountability! I never for on second felt he would shame me if I faltered and I always know he’s rooting for me so I can root for myself – a real coach!
As I begin Week Three of this journey, I am impacted by the remarkable precision of the InBody + Life Base interface. The first ten days of this path I had energy, stamina, and focus. I felt well. The next four days were good, but not fabulous. In my weekly coaching the session I was shown how the interface identified that my metabolism had calibrated upward, which is wonderful, and that my body is ready for more food. Impressive!
I begin Week Three with a slightly increased daily macronutrient plan, one I feel confident I can live with.
The adjustment wasn't drastic. It was precise—and that makes all the difference.
Why This Matters
Trial and error is a tough way to make significant change and that is what I had been doing in the field of my nutrition.
I want results that resonate. Efforts that count. Movement that moves me forward.
And here’s what I've noticed:
- I prepare meals intentionally.
- I recover faster.
- I don’t skip meals or snacks.
- I hydrate because I understand the why, not just the should.
- I make decisions from clarity, not comparison.
Dr. Peter Attia calls this "exercising informed agency." I call it grace with precision.
You Might Be Wondering...
"Susan, is this too much? Too complicated? Too clinical?"
It’s not. Because you don’t need to start where I am. You just need to stay open.
I’m three weeks into this exploration.
What I’m sharing isn’t a prescription. It’s a perspective.
A perspective shaped by data, yes—but also ---
By science.
By curiosity.
By the desire to build a body that can carry out not just my tasks, but my dreams.
A Reminder and an Invitation
I’m not behind .. and .. I’m not broken .. I’m just a choice away from more awareness.
For me, this process is not about being perfect.
It’s about being present.
It’s about partnering with what’s true for my body in this moment.
And I’ll keep sharing what I learn.
Because the best data doesn’t just inform —it empowers.
And empowered is exactly how I like to feel.
Coming Up Next:
I’ll share how the adjusted macronutrient plan went and any new revelations that may have waltzed through my life
Because transformation doesn’t just happen in the body.
It happens in every realm of life.
